  Annual. Stems 23-120 cm, solitary to fasciculate, geniculate to erect. Leaf sheaths densely pilose; ligule 1-6 mm, obtuse; blades 6-25 cm x 2-20 mm, linear, acute, pilose to glabrous. Panicle 8-36 x 2-15 cm, subsecund, rather effuse;
branches to 18 cm. Spikelets 20-26 mm, with 2-3 florets. Rachilla disarticulating above glumes and between florets. Glumes subequal, lanceolate, acuminate; lower glume 20-25 mm, 5(-7)-veined; upper glume 22-26 mm, 7(-9)-
veined. Lemma 20-22 mm (incl. setae), densely villous below awn attachment, narrowly lanceolate, 9-veined, gradually terminating in 2 setae, dorsally awned; setae 3-12 mm; awn 30-40 mm, geniculate, twisted in lower half. Palea 16-18
mm.
