Syrian Desert, N. Iraq. Ir.-Tur. element. Well developed plants may form nearly globose bushes and are said to behave as 'tumble-weeds'. C. schizophylla Náb. (Publ. Fac. Sci. Univ. Masaryk Brno 52:42, t. 9; 1925) was observed by its author between Cizre and Zaho (C9 Mardin), but no collections from Turkey exist and it is doubtful if C. schizophylla is really specifically different from C. rigida, from which it is distinguished mainly by the pinnatipartite lower leaves and the longer spines (10-15 mm).
