  Shrubs, 0.3-1 m tall. Leaves ovate, oblong-obovate or suborbicular, 1-6 x 0.5-2 cm, broadly petiolate, green above. Cymes terminal, laxly 1-6-flowered. Flowers pink, 3-5(-6) cm across. Style as long as the stamens. Capsules densely adpressed-pilose. Fl. 3-6. Macchie and garigue, s.l.-lOOO m.

  Crimea, C. Europe & Georgia. A very polymorphic species throughout the Mediterranean area. Omni-Mediterranean element. As infra-specific variation in the material seen shows no character correlation (nor is its distribution signi-ficant), we have not recognised any infra-specific taxa.
