Iraq, Iran. Ir.-Tur. element. Confused in herbaria and literature with C. balansae Planchon and C. troodii Kotschy (C decaisnei Boiss.). Material named C. imperatoTis-frederid (Siehe 99 from the Calyeadmus or Göksu river) appears to be referable to C. kotschyi.
Cyprus, W. Syria. E. Medit. element. Comparison of a wide range of material of C. troodii and C. decaisnei has provided no constant, significant characters by which to separate them. Considerable variation in the relative proportions of the perianth segments may be found between individuals in single populations, as well as variation in the size of the leaves, although the relative lengths and breadths of the leaves remain more or less in proportion. Much confusion exists in herbaria between C. troodii (incl. C. decaisnei), C, haussk-nechtii Boiss. and C. hierosolymitanum Feinbrun as it is rarely possible to associate, with any confidence, flowering material with specimens of leaves and fruit. Fruiting specimens of C. troodii from Turkey and Cyprus lack the minute brown dots on the surface of the capsule given as a character for C. decaisnei Boiss. by Feinbrun (Pal. J. Bot., Jer. Ser. 6:84, 1953). The capsules on the Haussknecht specimen (C6 Hatay: in Amano inter Beilan et Ain el Beitha, 13 iii 1865, Hausskn.!) used by Boissier in his original diagnosis do not show this character and Feinbrun's description of the leaves and capsules of C. decaisnei may possibly be based on material of C. haussknechtii or C. hierosolymitanum, both of which do have brown dots on the capsule surfaces.
