G. bonariensis (L.) Cronquist in Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 70:632 (1943). Syn: Erigeron bonariensis L., Sp. Pl. 863 (1753); E. crispus Pourr. in Mem. Acad. Toulouse 3:318 (1788); E. linifolius Willd., Sp. PL 3:1955 (1803). Ic: Boul., Fl. Lib. Syr. t. 208 (1930). Stems up to 60 cm, at first unbranched with terminal panicle of capitula, later branched with branches overtopping original inflorescence, bearing mixed indu-mentum of stiff spreading setulose hairs and softer adpressed hairs. Lower leaves oblanceolate, 5-8 x 0.5-1 cm, entire or with 2-5 coarse teeth or lobes on each side, acute at apex, attenuate at base, adpressed-pubescent and sparsely setulose; upper leaves linear-elliptic, 10-30 x 2-3 mm, entire. Involucre 0.75-1.2 cm broad; phyllaries linear-lanceolate, 3-4 x 0.3-0.4 mm. Female flowers. 3.5-4 mm, minutely ligulate. Hermaphrodite flowers 3.5-4 mm, 5-lobed. Achenes oblong-elliptic, 1.25-1.5 mm, sparsely pubescent. Pappus brownish-white, 3-4 mm. Fl. 5-10. Dry stony situations and waste ground, s.1.-1070 m. Described from S. America (Hb. Linn. 994/11!).
