Leaf segments lanceolate, 2.5-15 x 0.75-4 cm, attenuate at base, acute or acuminate at apex, coarsely serrate. Involucre cylindrical-campanulate, 4.5-6 x 2 mm, purplish-tinged. Flowers 5, corollas 4-5 mm. Achenes 2-3 mm, dark brown or black. Fl. 7-10. In moist places among rocks, s.l.-1200 m. Described from Europe (Hb. Cliff. 396/2!). Turkey-in-Europe, Outer & E. Euro-Sib. element. The species is variable in the degree of leaf division and shape of leaf segments. There are two varieties, neither of which is very distinct: var. indivisum DC. (Prodr. 5:180, 1836) in which all the leaves (not only the uppermost ones) are simple and undivided, and var. syriacum (Jacq.) Boiss. (Fl. Or. 3:154, 1875) in which the leaf segments are ovate in out-line with more rounded bases. |
