Plants from the N.W. of the species' area tend to be tailer, with siender styles (F. alpina Freyn & Sint); plants from the south are shorter with broad leaves and stout styles (F. syriaca Hayek &Siehe); and plants from B5 and 86 are smaller, with slender styles and gibbous outer perianth (F. flei-scheri Boss.)- Intermediates between these forms are as common as the forms themselves. A wel-marked form from N.E. Anatolia, e.g. Sint. 1894: 5534 (with a thin stem, rather slender entire style, and dark-coloured flowers, greenish inside) is the source of the records of F, armena Boiss. from U.S.S.R. It tends towards F. caucasica. Specimens from B9 Van (e.g. pass W. of Gevaş, 2000 m, Matiew & Tomlirtson 4221!) are iatemediste between F. pinardii and F. assyriaca in their stout styles and narrower leaves. |
