G. margaceum Ehrend. & Schönb.-Tem. in Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 37:249 (1979). Figures 24 & 25. Map 110.
Much branched semi-shrub, rarely nigrescent on drying. Stems 30-40 cm, lignescent and prostrate at base, with numerous branches; branches ascending to erect, subterete in their lower parts, ± quadrangular above, with short re-trorse, scabrid-puberulent indumentum; lower internodes and those of branches ± abbreviated, upper c. 2-3 cm. Leaves in whorls of 6-8, spreading to reflexed, (5-)6-10(-12) x 0.5-1.4 mm, linear or linear-oblong, mucronate, with hyaline apex c. 0.1-0.3 mm, somewhat incurved, margins strongly revolute, antrorsely scabrid above, densely puberulent beneath. Inflorescence cylindrical to elongate-pyramidal, ± densely puberulent, with suberect branches. Bracts quickly reduced, lanceolate to elliptic, acuminate, ± navicular, subscabrid along margins. Pedicels 1-3 mm, glabrescent to glabrous, divaricate. Corolla soft yellow, rotate, (1.75-)2-2.5 mm diam., lobes ovate, shortly incurved-apiculate, glabrous outside. Mericarps subglobose, c. 1-1.25 mm diam., nigrescent, smooth and glabrous. Fl: 7. Dry, rocky slopes, often on marl, c. 1150-2500 m.

Endemic. From the likewise short-leaved G. fistulosum Somm. & Lev. from N.W. Transcaucasia it is distinguishable by its less sharply angular stems, hairy leaves and smaller corollas. From G. kutzingii Boiss. & Buhse (Talysh, N.W. Iran) it differs by its somewhat longer leaves and glabrous ovaries. A specimen from B8 Bingöl: Bingöl Da., Goschkar, 1800 m, Kotschy 1859:350! seems to be intermediate between this species and G. verum.
