Stems eglandular, patently pilose and sometimes shortly pubescent. Lower leaves palmatifid to ¾-4/5, nervation less prominent than in G. platypet alum, 4-9 cm diam.; segments cuneate-rhombic, deeply 3-fid into broadly incised or deeply crenate-dentate lobes. Longest bracts 3-7 mm. Pedicels patently long-pilose and puberulent, or long-pilose and glandular-pubescent. Sepals 9-11 mm, patently long-pilose (hairs 2-3 mm) and shortly puberulent, sometimes also glandular-pubescent below; awn 1.5-2.5 mm. Petals obcordate, 16-24 mm, violet-blue. Mericarps puberulent and pilose. 1. Pedicels long-pilose and puberulent, eglandular; longest bracts 4-7 mm subsp. ibericum 1.
