Doubtfully recorded from Greece, Crete, N. Iran, Syria & the Caucasus. The distinctions between this species and G. flavum have been discussed by Turrill (Kew Bull. 1933: 174), who concluded that they were not specifically distinct. However, they are usually ecologically separated in Turkey, though intermediates do occur in W. Anatolia. G. caricum Stapf in Denk. Akad. Wiss. Wien, Math.-Nat. Kl. 51: 360 (1886) appears to have been based on one of these intermediate plants. I have also seen specimens of the intermediate type labelled 'G. perennans' but I have not been able to trace the place of publication, or a description of this taxon.
