H. nummularium (L.) Miller, Gard. Dict., no. 12 (1768). Coode & Cullen in Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 26: 198 (1965). Syn: H. chamaecistus auct. mult. non (?) Miller, Gard. Dict., no. 1 (1768). Suffruticose perennial, often straggling, lax. Indumentum variable, but not usually hispid-setose. Leaves very narrowly elliptic to oblong, not or scarcely revolute. Inner surface of inner sepals glabrous. Petals yellow. Four subspecies may be recognised: 1. Leaves green on both surfaces subsp. ovatum 1. Leaves white-tomentose, at least on the lower surface 2. Plant very canescent, stems white-tomentose subsp. lycaonicum 2. Stems green though hairy; only the lower leaf surfaces canescent 3. Petals 8-13 mm; leaves (3-)5-8 mm broad subsp. tomentosum 3. Petals 6-9(-10) mm; leaves 3-5(-7) mm, broad subsp. nummularium subsp. tomentosum (Scop.) Schinz & Thellung in Hegi, 111. Fl. Mittel-Eur. 5(1): 567 (1925). Syn: Cistus tomentosus Scop., Fl. Cam. ed. 2, 1: 376 (1772); H. tomentosum (Scop.) Spreng., Syst. Veg. 2: 592 (1825); H. vulgare var. grandi-florum sensu Boiss., Fl. Or. 1: 446 (1967). Fl. 4-8.
