H. racemosum (L.) Pau in Treb. Inst. Cat. Hist. Nat., Barcelona (1916). Syn: Cistus racemosus L., Mantissa 76 (1767); H. lavandulifolium Lam., Encycl. 2: 79 (1790), non Miller (1768); H. lavandulifolium var. syriacum (Jacq.) Dun. in DC. Prodr. 1: 279 (1824). Ic.: Willkomm, Ic. et Descr. PL Hisp. 2: t. 152, f. B, t. 153, f. A & B (1856); Fiori, Ic. Fl. Ital. 1: f. 1275 (1899). Much branched shrublet, erect and up to 35 cm tall. Leaves linear-oblanceolate, strongly revolute, often in axillary fascicles, densely tomentose. Flowers pendulous in a panicle of dense-flowered cincinni. Inner sepals asymmetrically 3-nerved, as long as or longer than the petals. Capsule small, 4 mm long, entirely enclosed by the sepals. Mainly coastal, s. 1.-1500 m.   Described from Spain (Hb. Linn. 689/56!).   Scattered, mainly in the W & S. Bl Izmir: Bornova, Schwarz 681. B5 Kayseri: Ercias Da., c. 1500 m, Zed. C1 Aydin: Didyma, S of Akköy, 20 m, Krause 1338. C5 Içel: Cilicia at Mersin, Bal. Is.: Khios, Pauli; Rodhos, Ferrini.   Throughout the Mediterranean area, but rare in Turkey. Medit. element.
