Endemic. Euxine element? H. platytaenium and H. spathyphylhım were described from W. and N.E. Anatolia respectively, the first being placed by Mandenova (op. cit. 1962) in her Sect. Villosa, and the second in Sect. Pubes-centia, on the basis of minor differences in vittae form. Having seen a considerable amount of material, I can find no correlation between characters of fruit and leaf (by which they were originally distinguished) that would justify their separation. The geographical range of this very variable species is more or less continuous. Forms with simple, pinnately lobed basal leaves can easily be confused with H. antasiaticum.
