H. matronalis L., Sp. PL 663 (1753). Biennial or rarely perennial herb. Stems tall, up to 100 cm, erect, with long, eglandular, simple hairs, and short, simple glandular or eglandular hairs. Lower leaves repand-dentate to subentire. Stem leaves with a short petiole, not amplexicaul. Sepals 6-8 mm. Petals lilac to white, 11-21 mm. Siliquae ascending-erect, asperous. A complex species, divisible into a number of subspecies, four of which occur in Turkey: 1. Petals 11-15 mm; stem with many glandular hairs subsp. cilicica 1. Petals 15-21 mm; stem with few glandular hairs, or glandular hairs absent except on the pedicels 2. Lower leaves subentire; pedicels glandular subsp. adzharica 2.
