  Stems 15-60 cm, with' numerous stellate hairs and villous with dense long plumose hairs. Leaves 5-8(-12), 40-200 x 20-55 mm, crowded in lower half of stem and sometimes forming a false rosette, oblanceolate-oblong, oblanceolate or obovate, usually obtuse, sometimes with mucronate tip, entire or with few small teeth, narrowed to ± amplexicaul base, lanate with long plumose hairs. Capitula 1-4; peduncles up to 30 cm, with 1-3 linear bracts, with dense stellate and numerous long plumose hairs. Involucre 13-20 mm; phyllaries narrowly linear-lanceolate, ± acute, with ± numerous stellate hairs, and scattered small yellowish glandular hairs, villous with dense long plumose hairs concealing phyllaries. Ligules glabrous. Styles yellow. Achenes 3.5-4.5 mm, yellowish-brown. Fl. (6-)7-8(-9). Usually among calcareous rocks, sometimes in stony pastures or woodland clearings, 1000-2700 m.
