  S. Europe, Cyprus, W. Syria, Syrian Desert, N. Africa. Medit. element. The specimen cited from C9 Mardin approaches var. nummularius (DC.) Bornm. in Beih. Bot. Centr. 57B:258 (1937), which may be distinguished from subsp. circinnatus by the peduncles being shorter than the subtending leaves, and the wing of the fruits subentire.   The former race grows in Egypt, the Syrian Desert, Palestine and S. Iran; intermediates are frequent.
