Transcaucasia. Euxine (mt.) element. I. blepharophylla from the description is obviously closely related to this species but has narrower upper leaves and, as Bornmüller (1944) points out in discussion, the pappus measures 3∙5-4 mm and consists of only 6-8 hairs. The type, Woronow s.n. (26 vii 1911) is from 'Pontus: Baku, distr. Artwin . . . prope pagum Tisra' ('Baku' is presumably a misprint for Batumi).
