Europe & Balkans eastwards to Caucasia, N. Iraq & Iran. Euro-Sib, element ? I. oculus-christi generally has adpressed phyilaries but some specimens (from Bl Izmir (Boz Da.) and C2 Antalya (Elmali)) have spreading phyilariesand strongly auriculate leaf bases, and have been described as I. auriculata. The belief that they should be included in I. oculus-christi is strengthened by the presence of hairs on their ligules. It is interesting to note that recently collected specimens from Boz Da. also have spreading phyllaries but those from Elmali do not. For distinctions between this species and I. britannica, see comments under the latter. |
