I. taochia Woronow ex Grossh., Fl. Kavk. 1:256 (1928). Ic: Mathew, The Irish. &w.t.8&9(1981).   Plant 15-30 cm. Leaves (l-)1.5-2(-3) cm broad, straight or very slightly curved, long-tapering from middle to an acute apex, greyish-green. Stem 1-2-branched with 2-5 flowers. Bract and bracteole in flated-navicular, 3-5 cm, pale green at anthesis, becoming scarious. Flowers purple, violet or dirty yellow to deep yellow, usually prominently veined on lower part of segments; beard yellow or white tipped with yellow; perianth tube l-1.8(-2.2) cm; falls obovate, rather rounded at apex, 5.5-6.5(-8) x 3-3.2(-4.5) cm; standards broadly elliptic-obovate with a short claw, 5-6.5(-8) x 3-3.5(-4.5) cm; style branches 2.8-3.2(-4.8) x l-1.3(-2) cm with obtuse lobes c. 0.4 x 0.4 cm. Capsule ellipsoid, 3.5-6 x 1.5-2 cm. Fl. 5-6. Open, dryish non-calcareous rocky slopes, 1600-2000 m.   Type: [Turkey A9 Erzurum] "Kar. O1't. O." (Oltu).   N.E. Anatolia. Ir.-Tur. element. Known only from these and other collections, all from the vicinity of Tortum. Closely related to /. imbricata Lindley from N. Iran and E. Transcaucasia but the latter differs in being taller, (30-)35-50 cm, with leaves abruptly narrowed at the apex, and always yellow flowers.
