Annual herb. Stems up to 50 cm, erect. Lower leaves sinuate-dentate to pinnatifid. Petals whitish or yellowish to purple. Siliquae terete, up to 15 cm. Stigmawith 2 long acute horns, and 1 (the stigma itself) much shorter. 3 subspecies may
be recognised:
1. Siliquae 30-60 mm, erect or erect-spreading; horns obtuse, up to 4 mm subsp. pumilio
1. Siliquae (50-)70-150 mm, erect-spreading; horns acute, 2-10 mm
    2. Petal limb white or yellow, 2-4 mm broad; horns usually spreading or recurved subsp. longipetala
    2. Petal limb 3-7 mm broad, pink to mauve; horns usually curved upwards subsp. bicornis
