  Densely tufted, glabrous to glandular-pubescent perennial, sometimes appar-ently short-lived, 5-10 cm, with numerous flowering stems and dense leaf fas-cicles. Leaves 5-10 mm, subulate-setaceous. Inflorescence 3-6-flowered; bracts broadly triangular; pedicels 5-12 mm. Sepals ovate, acute, 3-veined. Petals ovate-elliptic to suborbicular, abruptly contracted at base into a short claw, slightly longer than sepals. Fl. 7-8. Pastures, ascending to 2750 m.
  Described from mountains of S. Europe (Hb. Linn. 585/30 & 31! - cf. Halliday in Feddes Rep. 69: 12, 1964).

  Sect. Minuartia. Annual or perennial. Leaves subulate-setaceous to linear-lanceolate, 3-7-veined. Calyx conical, hardened and rounded to truncate at the base. Sepals linear-lanceolate to ovate, acute to acuminate, 1-3-veined, usually spreading in flower. Staminal glands often prominent, sometimes bipartite. Capsule not exceeding calyx. Seeds obscurely tuberculate, sometimes echinate on the dorsal ridge.
  Subsect. Minuartia. Annual. Sepals 3-veined, the central green (brown in fruit) herbaceous part broad, extending beyond the lateral veins, the white membranous margin usually very narrow.
