P. exaratum Hochst. ex Griseb., Spic. 2:463 (1844). Annual Stems 5-50 cm, erect or geniculately ascending from base, tufted or solitary, slender, smooth, glabrous, 4-5-noded. Leaf sheaths glabrous, some-times uppermost ± inflated; ligule 2-5 mm, obtuse; blades 1-11.5 cm x 2-6 mm, linear, acute, glabrous, minutely scabrid on margins. Panicle l-9(-10) cm x 5-12 mm, cylindrical, usually rounded at base. Spikelets 3-5 mm, oblong-lanceolate. Glumes broadly hyaline on margins, ciliate on keel, 2 lateral veins visible; aristate points 0.5-0.8 mm, usually straight. Lemma 1.2-2.5 mm, hya-line, ovate, obtuse, covered with clavate hairs on dorsal surface. Anthers 1.2-2 mm. Caryopsis 0.9-1.1 mm, elliptic, ± terete. 1.
