Erect annual, biennial or short-lived perennial with indumentum containing minute lanate hairs and 2-barbed glochids. Stems 30-120 cm, usually subcorym-bose with short lateral branches. Basal leaves oblanceolate, 9-2 x 1-4.5 cm, attenuate at base, margins usually coarsely and distantly dentate; cauline linear-oblanceolate, ± entire, decreasing in size above. Peduncles not thickened. Involucres 1-1.3 x 1-1.5 cm. Ligules exserted c. 6 mm from involucre. Achenes homomorphic, fusiform, 3-4 mm, glabrous. Pappus hairs 5.5-6.5 mm, numerous, plumose. Fl. 6-9.
