P. echioides (Lumn.) C.H.&F. W.Schultz in Flora 45:431 (1862). Stolons usually absent, rarely long, leafy and bearing capitula. Rosette leaves 30-170x5-17 mm, narrowly elliptic, subacute or obtuse, entire, long-attenuate at base, withering early, with numerous stellate hairs below and less numerous above, and ± numerous, rigid, bulbous-based simple eglandular hairs throughout. Flowering stems 25-110 cm, with ± numerous stellate hairs and rigid simple eglandular hairs, without glandular hairs, with (3-)5-20 leaves, lower like those of rosette, upper very narrowly linear. Inflorescence ± cymose-corymbose; capitula (5-)10-70. Phyllaries 6-10 x 1-1.5 mm, linear-lanceolate, obtuse to acute, tomentose with stellate and ± numerous simple eglandular hairs, with or without very few inconspicuous glandular hairs.
