P. terebinthus L,, Sp. Pl. 1025 (1753). Map 66, p. 549. Shrub 2-3 m, or small tree up to 6 m, often galled. Leaves deciduous, impari-pinnate or paripinnate; leaflets (l-)2-4(-6)-paired, ovate-oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 3-7(-8) x l.8-3(-4) cm, obtuse, acute or acuminate, always mucron-ate, glabrous, dark green above, paler beneath, terminal leaflet (if present) not broader than the lateral ones, often much reduced, even to a bristle; rachis not winged, glabrous. Fruits paniculate, globose or broadly obovate, 5-6 x 4-6 mm. Two subspecies may be recognised, though intermediates are rather common in Turkey. 1. Leaves always imparipinnate, terminal leaflet of the median leaves often as large as the laterals; lateral leaflets ovate-oblong, obtuse subsp. terebinthus 1. Leaves paripinnate or imparipinnate, terminal leaflet of median leaves always smaller than the laterals or reduced to a bristle; lateral leaflets oblong-lanceolate, acuminate subsp. palaestina subsp. palaestina (Boiss.)
