P. orientalis Bornm. in Verh. Zool.-Bot. Ges. Wien 48:620 (1898). Differs from P. vulgaris by its hispid indumentum, narrower, elliptic to lanceolate, subentire to weakly laciniate leaves, lower lip of calyx often more deeply divided, teeth broader, and longer (to 20 mm), lilac or violet corolla. Differs from P. vulgaris by the characters given in the diagnosis, and from P. laciniata in its violet or lilac (never white) corollas, height of stem (to 40 cm, taller than most P. laciniata) and usually more weakly laciniate leaves.
