subsp. sativa (DC.) Hegi, I1I. Fl. Mittel-Eur. 4(2):698 (1922). Syn:P. sativa DC. in Lam. & DC, Fl. Fr. 4:430 (1805); P. communis L. var. sativa (DC.) DC, Prodr. 2:634(1825).
The cultivated Pear (in Turkish-'Armut'), has arisen by selection of wild stocks and probably also by hybridization with P. nivalis Jacq. and P. cordata Desv. Frequently escaping from cultivation and often difficult to distinguish from truly wild populations of subsp. communis as many intermediate forms exist (such as P. balansae Decne., Jard. Fruit. 1:319 (1871-1872)-described from A8 Rize: Khabackor, 1500 m, Bal).
