S. lacera Boiss. & Bal. in Boiss., Diagn. ser. 2(5): 116 (1856). Map 60, p. 649. Erect caulescent perennial, 25-40 cm; rootstock stout, cylindrical. Lower leaves ± deeply pinnatisect, soft, 11-17 x 1.5-2 cm, narrowly lanceolate, tapering into a short petiole, very sparsely crisped-hairy (especially on midrib). Capitula l(-2) per stem, 25-35 mm long. Flowers lilac. Inner phyllaries 20-25 mm, narrowly lanceolate, acute. Achenes c. 9 mm, deeply sulcate, transversely rugose, glabrous; pappus hairs dimorphic, plumose and barbellate. Fl. 5-6. Calcareous hills, banks, c. 250 m. Type: [Turkey C5 Içel] ad Bouloukli circa Mersina, Balansa (iso. E!). S. Anatolia. C5 Hatay: nr Suedia, Kotschy 331! C6 Adana: above Osmaniye on Fevzipaşa road, 250 m, D. 42253! Hatay: Alexandrette (Iskenderun), Meincke. Endemic. E. Medit. element. Closely allied to S. violacea. Specimens from C5 Konya: nr Koraş, Siette 1906:354! and C5 Içel: Giosna (Gözne), 1200 m, Siehe 1895:52! approach S. violacea in their shorter, 10-15 cm stems and pro-cumbent habit, but agree with S. lacera in their acute phyllaries.
