S. orientalis L., Sp. PL 598 (1753). (Sect. Lupulinaria A. Ham.). q. subsp. tortumensis Kit Tan & Sorger in Pl. Syst. Evol. 155:98, t. 2 B-Ba (1987). Suffrutescent herbaceous perennial, repent at base. Stems slender, ascending to stiffly erect, to 35 cm, sparsely puberulous. Leaves distant, petiolate, oblong-elliptic; median cauline 15-22x5-8 mm, obtuse, attenuate towards base, + glau-cous-glabrescent above, puberulous to tomentellous beneath, concolorous, cren-ately incised to less than 1/3-way to midrib. Type: Turkey A8 Erzurum: ca. 10 km N. of Tortum, by waterfall, 1200 m, 18 vii 1982, Sorger 82-79-10 (holo. Hb. F. Sorger! iso. E!). Endemic to N.E. Anatolia. Ir.-Tur. element. Within the polymorphic S. orientalis L. complex [7:89-99] closest to subsp. sintenisii (Hausskn. ex Bornm.) Edmondson [7:98, n] from E. Anatolia, but the combination of differential characters — the more slender, non-farinose stems, smaller leaves with fewer lobes and less tomentellous upper surfaces, and larger, broadly ovate bracts — allows a clear distinction. |
