Russia, Crimea, S.W. & C. Asia. Closely related to S. leucanthemifolius Poir. from the W. & C. Mediterranean. The two species appear to merge in parts of S. & E. Europe where there are no reliable characters for separating them. Records of S. leucanthemifolius for Turkey can probably be referred to S. vernalis. There is a tendency for plants of S. vernalis from eastern Anatolia to have narrower, more dissected leaves than elsewhere in Turkey. |
