S. armeria L., Sp. PI. 420 (1753). Ic: Bonnier, Fl. Comp, Fγ., Suisse et Belge 2: t. 366 (1913). Figure 5, p. 189. Glabrous annual or biennial. Stems erect, 10-40 cm. Basal leaves spathulate, soon withering. Cauline leaves ovate-amplexicaul, acute, the upper not closely investing the inflorescence. Inflorescence a congested compound dichasium. Calyx 12-16 mm, obscurely veined. Petals pink, the limb slightly emarginate. Amhophore 7-8 mm. Capsule oblong-cylindrical, as long as or slightly longer than the anthophore.
