S. ehrenbergii Boiss., Fl. Or. 4:721 (1879). Ic: Boul, Fl. Lib. Syr. t. 340 (1930). Mesophytic perennial with basal sterile rosettes. Stems 65-70 cm, simple, densely patent-villous with long eglandular and short glandular hairs. Cauline leaves ovate-oblong, 9-14 x 3.5-4.5 cm, crenate, obtuse, truncate or shallowly cordate at base, sericeous-tomentose on both surfaces, petiole c. 8 cm. Floral leaves ovate, abruptly smaller than cauline ones, 1.5-2.5 x 0.6-1 cm, subsessile to sessile, longer than verticillasters. Verticillasters 12-16-flowered, lower remote, 5-7 cm distant, upper 2-3 approximate. Bracteoles to 10 mm, linear, herbaceous, not spinescent. Pedicels c. 1.5 mm. Calyx sub-bilabiate, subcampanulate, c. 11 mm, densely villous-lanate; teeth 4 mm, triangular-lanceolate, c. 1/2 x tube, glandular, with 0.5-0.6 mm mucro. Corolla rose-pink, 12-14 mm, tube subincluded. Nutlets not seen. Fl. 7. Alt. 1830-2135 m.
