C. Europe, Balkans, S. Russia, W. Siberia, Caucasia, Iran, Lebanon, Anti-Lebanon. Although the type of T. haussknechtii, illustrated in Handel-Mazzetti's monograph, and present in Vienna! is very characteristic, all the other plants identified by Handel-Mazzetti which I have seen are transitions to the normal type of T. serotinum. T. serotinum has a wide variability, which is not surprising for a diploid species. In the Orient the plants are usually smaller than those in the Pannonic and Pontic areas of S.E. Europe. The beak shows variability in length and the leaf form is very variable.
