Koch in Linnaea 23:712 (1850). Ic: Bot. Mag. 63: t. 3466 (1836). Map 3, p. 59. Stems 1-1 ∙5(-2) m, puberulous or sparsely arachnoid, branched only above. Basal leaves (20-)25-32 x (15-)20-25 cm, on petioles up to 20 cm, apex acute, margins coarsely dentate, puberulous on both surfaces mostly on veins; cauline leaves decreasing in size. Capitula 3-8 borne on long (up to 25 cm) peduncles. Involucre 2∙5-3∙5 cm broad; outer phyllaries ovate, acute, 1-1∙5 cmx4-5 mm, median ones obtuse, spreading, inner ones narrower (c. 25 mm), erect, sub-scarious. Paleae 4∙5-5∙5 mm, narrowly linear. Ligules 2∙5-3∙5 cm. Disc flowers 4∙5-5∙5 mm. Achenes c. 3 mm, glabrous; corona c. 0∙5 mm. Fl. 7-9. Streamsides, sometimes among small trees, 300-1700 m. Described from Cappadocia (Turkey). N.
