Dwarf shrub forming loose cushions or mats. Primary branches procumbent, with axillary leaf fascicles or erect flowering stems 1.5-6 cm, variably hairy all round. Leaves 4-9.5 x 0.6-1.3 mm, linear-lanceolate, mostly velutinous-puberulent with additional longer hairs, oil dots absent or few, pale; margins slightly revolute or with a thickened pseudo-revolute margin, at least basal half ciliate. Inflorescence capitate. Bracts 1.8-3.5 mm broad, elliptic-ovate, usually with a marginal thickening and revolute margins towards apex, mostly coloured towards base, with l-2(-3) pairs of lateral veins beneath. Bracteoles 1-2.5 mm. Calyx 3.5-5.2(-6.5) mm, oil dots absent or few, yellowish; upper teeth 0.8-1.6 mm, ciliate. Corolla mauve to purple, 6-8 mm. Fl. 6-7. Mountain steppes, rocky slopes, 1200-c. 3000 m.
1. Leaves velutinous-puberulent, with additional longer hairs; calyx not more than 5 mm var. leucotrichus
1. Leaves without velutinous pubescence (except possibly when young);calyx 4.5-6.5 mm var. austroanatolicus

Lebanon. Similar to T. mastigophorus Lacaita from northern C. Spain, and its N. African relatives.
T. leucotrichus is variable in indumentum characters and in calyx shape and size. However, correlation of characters proved too weak for distinguishing subspecies. The identity of three gatherings from C6 Hatay (mt. Amanus, 1670 m, Haradj. 342! Hassa, Tüyek village, Çardak valley, Kirtilli Da., 1900 m, E. Sezik 671! Kuslici Da., 1670-2170 m, Haradj. 2493!) is obscure;Haradj. 2493 differs from the other two in having leaves glabrous except for basal cilia (not densely hairy). All three are similar to var. austroanatolicus in general appearance and in dimensions of calyx and corolla, but have the leaves oblanceolate-spathulate, ± flat (margins not revolute), lateral veins joining to form a conspicuous marginal thickening. The Albanian local endemic T. doer-fleri Ronniger is also similar but differs in details of leaf venation and hairiness, and can hardly be considered closely related.
