Type: [Turkey B7 Erzincan] in monte Sipikordagh in fruticetis ad Jerbatan, 7 viii 1890, Sintenis 3184 (iso. LD! K! E!).
Endemic, only known from the type gathering. Ir.-Tur. element. The genus is allied to the S. African Gerbera in which Beauverd (in Bull. Soc. Bot. Genève sér.
2, 2:43, 1910) placed this species. It appears to differ from Gerbera principally by its paleaceous receptacle. Freyn originally claimed that Uechtritzia differed in having homogamous capitula but, though the marginal flowers contain stamens, they are much reduced and sterile, i.e. staminodes. Such structures are present in the ray flowers of other genera of Compositae which are, nevertheless, treated as heterogamous capitula. The only other species, U. kokanica (Regel & Schmalh.) Pobed., is known from the Tien Shan and Pamir Alai mts. of Central Asia.
