V. pyramidata Medik., Phil. Bot. 1: 96 (1789). Stems erect, 15-60 cm. Leaves cordate-lanceolate, the lowermost somewhatpetiolate, the rest sessile. Inflorescence many-flowered, widely branched. Calyx 10-15 mm. Petals pink, 14-23 mm. Capsule ± globose. Four varieties, which show considerable intergrading, may be recognised: 1. Calyx teeth broadly triangular, the herbaceous part 0.7-1.5 mm 2. Petals 14-16 mm, the claws slightly exserted from the calyx var. pyramidata 2. Petals 18-23 mm, the claws clearly exserted from the calyx var. grandiflora 1. Calyx teeth triangular-acuminate, the herbaceous part (l.8-)2-4 mm 3. Petals 15-18 mm, lamina oblong-linear var. oxyodonta 3. Petals 20-21 mm, lamina obovate-oblong var. liniflora var. pyramidata.
