C. prangoides Boiss. in Ann. Sci. Nat. ser. 3, 2:76 (1844)! Prangos carinata Gris. ex Degcn in Term.-Tud. Közl. 28:44 (1896). Ic: Fiori, Ic. Fl. Ital. f. 2411 (1901); Bot. Mag. 163: t. 9634 (1942). Robust perennial, 50-150 cm, glabrous to papillose. Basal and lower cauline leaves 60-80 cm long, up to 6-pinnate; lobes linear-filiform, 5-35 x(0.3-)0.5-l.5 mm. Bracts and bracteoles often persistent, linear to filiform. Fruiting umbels 7-15(-20)-rayed. Sepals usually obsolete. Petals yellow, glabrous. Fruit with a variable amount of corky mesocarp, ellipsoid to globose, 12-25x10-15 mm, wings absent or up to 3 mm wide, when present straight to slightly undulate, sometimes with erose margins; stylopodium comparatively small, somewhat embedded in the pericarp. Balkans, Italy, Sicily, Cyrenaica, W. Syria, Caucasia, Iran. Biosystematic studies on Palestine populations of this species show that Cachrys goniocarpa completely intergrades with P. ferulacea, even within single populations. Two specimens from C6 Adiyaman (Soff Da., 28 vi 1865, Hausskn.!) and C7 Diyarbakir (Diyarbakır, Habaseki, Sint. 864!) differ in that the small stylopodium is hidden between the mericarps, thus approaching that of Cryptodiscus. These two specimens resemble material from 'inter Tchinar et Maregun Elymaitidis, Haussknecht' cited by Boissier as Cachrys prangoides (the type of C. prangoides, however, resembles and is clearly synonymous with P. ferulacea). The identity of these three specimens remains in doubt. Three records of Cachrys prangoides from C9 Hakkari (Hasitha, c. 1500 m, Nâbelek 364a; Mt. Siarez, 1800-1900 m, Nâbelek 364; Mt. Kela Mame, 2000-2200 m, Nâbelek 370) may refer to P. ferulacea.
