C6 Adana: nr. Hasanbeyli, 914-1230 m, Darrah 670! C. & E. Europe, S. Russia, Crimea, Caucasia, N. Iraq, N., N.W. & W. Iran, N. & C. Asia. Var. sisarum, which differs in its edible tuberous roots (for which it is sometimes cultivated in Europe), is not known in the wild. Related to S. latifolium L. from Europe, S. Russia, Caucasus, N. Iraq, the latter differs in having 2-3-pinnate submerged leaves, conspicuous, lanceolate sepals, and a taller, grooved stem. A specimen from CIO Hakkari (Gevar Ovasi, between Yüksekova and Sat Da., 1900 m, D. 45787!) approaches S. latifolium in its slightly grooved stem and dimorphic leaves but agrees with S. sisarum in its very short calyx lobes. In the absence of further S.W. Asian S. latifolium material, I hesitate to refer this specimen to that species since it does not entirely agree with European material. |
