Several- to many-stemmed perennial, c. 50-70 cm. Stems branched, unwinged, fioccose-arachnoid. Median cauline leaves oblong, pinnatifid to pinnatisect, lateral lobes bifid or trifid, toothed, 4-7-paired, triangular to lanceolate-triangular, lateral and terminal lobes with weak to moderately stout 3-14 mm apical spine, spinose-strigose above with setae 0.3-1.5 mm, otherwise arachnoid to tomentose on both sides. Lateral branches 2-6, usually short, 1-2-capitulate; uppermost leaves 3-7, usually overtopping involucre, semi-involucrate. Involucres erect in loose racemes, globose-ovoid to broadly obovoid, 10-20 mm. Phyllaries arach-noid, c. 6-8-seriate; median c. 10-12 mm, incl. recurved or + erect weak c. 2 x0.2 mm apical spine. Corollas pale pink, 17-20 mm. Achenes immature. Pappus 15-18 mm. Fl. 7-8. Stony slopes near streams, edge of flush, igneous scree, 2700-3000 m. Type: [E.
