Dwarf, rosulate perennial, stoutly taprooted. Leaves petiolate, simple, lyrate or pinnatisect, sparsely arachnoid and densely glandular-pitted to glabrescent, smooth and eglandular above, white and densely arachnoid beneath. Capitula sessile, usually solitary in each rosette. Involucre subglobose, 25-40(-50) mm broad; phyllaries 4-5-seriate, lanceolate, outer arachnoid, recurved or reflexed, inner glabrescent. Flowers lilac-pink, very fragrant. Achenes longitudinally striate or transversely rugulose, 4-5 mm. Pappus 2-4 x as long as achenes, deciduous, hairs barbellate.
