J. moschus (Habl.) Bobrov in Bot. Zhurn. 43:1545 (1958). Dwarf, rosulate perennial, stoutly taprooted. Leaves petiolate, simple, lyrate or pinnatisect, sparsely arachnoid and densely glandular-pitted to glabrescent, smooth and eglandular above, white and densely arachnoid beneath. Capitula sessile, usually solitary in each rosette. Involucre subglobose, 25-40(-50) mm broad; phyllaries 4-5-seriate, lanceolate, outer arachnoid, recurved or reflexed, inner glabrescent. Flowers lilac-pink, very fragrant. Achenes longitudinally striate or transversely rugulose, 4-5 mm. Pappus 2-4 x as long as achenes, deciduous, hairs barbellate. 1. Leaves simple to lyrate, 1-7-lobed, woolly and glandular-pitted above (terminal segment ovate to orbicular with obtuse apex) subsp. moschus 1. Leaves l(-2)-pinnatisect with numerous narrow segments, mostly glabrescent,± smooth and eglandular above subsp. pinnatisecta subsp. moschus. Syn: Centaurea moschus Habl. in Neue nord.
