S. mirabilis Lipschitz in Not. Syst. (Leningrad) 22:289 (1963). Erect caulescent perennial; stems c. 70 cm; rootstock unknown. Lower stem leaves elliptic-lanceolate, lamina c. 13 x 5 cm, sparsely villous, margin undulate, taping below into a c. 1.5 cm petiole, amplexicaul. Capitula many per stem, 13-17 mm long. Outer phyllaries c. 5 mm, villous; inner 12-15 mm, villous. Flowers pale yellow. Young achenes c. 5 mm, smooth, glabrous; pappus yellowish, hairs plumose. Fl. 8. Rocky slopes, c. 1700 m. Type: Turkey [C9] Hakkari, Cilo Dağ, Diz deresi, 1700 m, 6 viii 1954, Davis & O. Polunin, D. 23925 (holo. E!). Endemic. Ir.-Tur. element. Closely related to S. tomentosa but differing in its outer phyllaries, etc. Growing with S. veratrifolia (q.v.) from which it differs in its glabrous achenes. |
