S. suberosa C.Koch in Linnaea 17:275 (1843). Syn: S. aucheri Boiss. & Huet in Boiss., Diagn. ser. 2(3) : 92 (1856). Erect subscapigerous perennial, 5-18 cm; rootstock tuberous, occasionally branched. Leaves entire, 4-16 x 0.2-1 cm, linear, margin undulate, tapering gradually into a 0.5-3 cm petiole. Capitula 1 per stem, 18-42 mm long. Inner phyllaries 20-40 mm. Flowers lilac to purple. Achenes 18-21 x 9 mm, obscurely ridged, transversely lamellate-rugulose, glabrous; pappus hairs plumose. Fl. 5-6. 1. Leaves 2-5 mm wide, margin plane or undulate subsp. suberosa 1.
