Rech. fil. in Öst. Bot. Zeitschr. 97:231 (1950) in obs. Figure 14, p. 267. Subcaespitose herb. Rootstocks thick, fibrous, woody. Stems 30 cm, leafy especially below, silvery-grey tomentose. Basal leaves 2-pinnatisect, 8-10 cm on 3-5 cm petioles, linear-oblanceolate in outline, primary segments 10-12-paired, 4-10 mm long, bearing 4-5 pairs of oblanceolate segments 2-3 x 1 mm, greyish-white tomentose and glandular-punctate; cauline leaves similar, becoming smaller and sessile above. Capitula 3-8 in dense terminal corymbs. Involucre 6-8 mm broad; phyllaries 3-seriate. ± densely whitish-villous, pale-margined, outer lanceolate, 2.5-3 x 0.75-1 mm, inner oblong or oblanceolate, 5 x 1-1 .25 mm, fimbriate-scarious at margin above. Female flowers c. 7, inconspicuous, corollas yellow, 2.5-2.75 mm, 3-4-lobed at apex. Disc flowers 3 mm. Achenes straw-coloured, 4 mm, 4-5-angled and ± equally 10-12-ribbed at maturity; corona c. 0.2 mm, entire-margined but minutely denticulate. Fl. 5-6. Steppe and eroded shaly hillsides, 1900-2130 m.
