N. Iraq, Iran (except S.), Afghanistan, Pakistan. Ir.-Tur. element. A polymorphic species. Most of the Turkish specimens seem to be close to subsp. zygo-morpha H.Riedl in Öst. Bot. Zeitschr. 110:527 (1963), with orange-red and ± zygomorphic flowers. A specimen from A9 Kars (Aras valley, 31 km from lğdir to Tuzluca, D. 43572!) has a laxer inflorescence and larger corolla, to -16 mm. Together with D. 43704, D. 43820 and D. 43379, they may represent a well developed extreme variant.
