Specimens from vilayets Kars & Rize are somewhat larger in all their parts than those from the more western parts of Turkey, and are sometimes recognised as a separate species (E. lazistanicum). However, they are connected to the more westerly specimens by numerous intermediates, and are therefore best treated as part of E. pulchellum. The varieties of this species accepted by Boissier do not seem worthy of recognition. |
