America. Euro-Sib, element. Anderson et al. (op cit., 1975) differentiated between the robust European B. umbellatus s. str. and the more slender, smaller Asiatic B. junceus. In Turkey, both forms are common and their areais are sympatric. The Asiatic race might be worthy of varietal recognition but, since the differences given partly break down and the overlapping of characters is considerable, no infra-specific division of B. umbellatus is adopted here. |
