Caucasus, Transcaucasia. According to Fedorov in Fl. URSS 24:197(1957), this taxon is allopatric in the mountains, primarily in W. Caucasus, with subsp. rapunculoides. This does not seem to be the case in Turkey. C. rapunculoides is variable in indumentum, size and form of cauline leaves, flower size and form of inflorescence. The two recognized subspecies represent two only slightly distinct taxa.
