In flower, difficult to distinguish from S.. arguta. S. erysimifolia Stapf and S. eriocalycina Boiss. are two species, from Iran & Syria, doubtfully distinct from S. montbretiana. Born-miiller (Feddes Rep. Beih. 89(1): 110-111, 1936) records both from prov. Erzincan. In view of the difficulty of the group it seems unwise to accept these records without confirmation.
