S. sclerophylla Chowdh. in Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 22: 261 (1957). Syn: 5. sclerophylloides Chowdh., op. cit. 262! Figure 4, p. 187. Glabrous, glaucous perennial. Stems erect, up to 45 cm. Basal leaves small, narrowly oblanceolate, acute. Median cauline leaves more than 3 x longer than broad, lanceolate to oblanceolate, acute, cuneate at the base, more than 5 mm broad. Inflorescence usually a few-flowered panicle. Flowers rarely unisexual. Calyx 21-28 mm. Petals pink to greenish white, divided into oblong lobes. Anthophore 16-19 mm, longer than the capsule, which is completely included in the calyx. Fl. 7-8. Slopes, hillsides, 1400-2600 m. Type: Turkey C9 Hakkari, Cilo Dağ, in Diz Deresi, 1700 m, gravel terraces, flowers pink, 6 viii 1954, Davis & Polunin, D. 23921 (holo. K, iso. E!). B7 Erzincan: Erzincan to Refahiye, 1400 m, D. 32680! Tunceli: above Pertek, 1600 m, D. 31050! B8 Bitlis: Kambos Da. above Hurmuz, 2000 m, D. 23495 (type of S. sclerophylloides)'. Van: 5 km W of Gevaş, 1600-1700 m, Hub.-Mor. 11172! C9 Hakkari: Cilo Da., 2600 m, D. 24252! Endemic: Ir.-Tur. element, closely related to S. cartilaginea. There seems no good reason for separating the unisexual plant as S. sclerophylloides; it agrees well enough in other characters with S. sclerophylla. |
